It is known that Iraq is going through a very sensitive and complex phase, which must be dealt with with the utmost sense of responsibility and sincerity. Otherwise, its fate is bleak and full of dangers. Waiting, and there is no doubt that the Kurdistan region is not immune to all of this.

From this perspective, the Executive Council of the Kurdistan Islamic Union deliberated in a special meeting, and in consultation with the Union bloc in the Iraqi Parliament; The issue of electing the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister, which is scheduled to be resolved in the Parliament session on Saturday 3/26/2022.

After extensive deliberations, and studying internal, regional and international expectations and variables, and with the aim of preserving national ranks and political consensus, protecting gains, warding off dangers, finding solutions, and respecting the choice of Iraq’s components, and in conjunction with our positions as political and parliamentary opposition in the region and Iraq, we decided not to participate in the Islamic Union bloc in a session Parliament on Saturday 26/3, abstaining from voting for any candidate for the post of President of the Republic; which; Unfortunately, there was no consensus on a common candidate, and thus partisan interests took precedence over the public interest.
