Salahaddin Mohammed Bahaaddin, Secretary-General of the Kurdistan Islamic Union (KIU), received Claudio Cordon, Deputy Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, and an accompanying delegation in Sulaimani on Wednesday afternoon.
The two sides discussed during a meeting the political situation in Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and the region, Secretary-General of the KIU stressed that UNAMI should play its role in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, especially in the provincial and parliamentary elections to be monitored and free from fraud.
He also stressed the importance of the role of the United Nations to be above the role of great and regional countries in Iraq, while UNAMI officials should understand that they should intensify their efforts to resolve the conflicts between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad through dialogue, called on UNAMI to find a radical solution to the problem of employees salaries in the region.
For his part, Claudio Cordon, Deputy Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, thanked the Secretary-General for providing the opportunity and called on the Kurdistan Islamic Union to play an important role in bringing the political parties closer together.
